About Us
The Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna (SCOV), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a volunteer-based organization that has been dedicated to providing life-enriching services to mature adults in the community since 1997. Through a wide variety of programs, volunteers and a small staff strive to help our older population seek fulfilling lives and live independently in their homes as long as possible. We advance opportunities that reduce isolation and encourage individuals to take on new challenges, learn new skills, make new friends and serve others. We are supported by local congregations, community organizations, businesses, grants and individuals.
The average lifespan in America has been extended significantly, and today, aging has become the rule rather than the exception. Many people are living long and active lives, but others will require a helping hand. The Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna fully embraces these changes and stands ready, by offering meaningful and fulfilling volunteer and educational opportunities and services, to advance the needs and interests of mature adults in our community.
The unique approach employed by SCOV allows for mature adults to volunteer their time providing vital services to vulnerable seniors needing assistance. As socio-economic challenges continue, community assistance is becoming a vital element for supporting mature adults. This concept of assistance truly defines the spirit and purpose of SCOV— Seniors helping Seniors .
