Supreme Court Justice Tom Clark, will discuss her father’s illustrious career and the factors
in his upbringing and education that helped form his judicial philosophy. Ms. Gronlund
recently wrote a biography highlighting her father’s accomplishments, titled “Supreme Court
Justice Tom C. Clark, A Life of Service.” The book offers a rare look into the personal side

DC Mall Garden Tour. Excursion will start with a 45-minute guided tour of the Mary Livingston Ripley Garden led by horticulturist Janet Draper. Bus will then take us to Mitsitam Café in the American Indian Museum for lunch; everyone selects and pays for their own meal. After lunch we will take a short walk to the US Botanic Garden for a 45-minute docent-led tour of the indoor gardens and galleries in the Conservatory. Following this you will have time to explore the National Garden, whose major features are the Rose Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Lawn Terrace, the First Ladies' Water Garden, the Regional Garden, and an outdoor amphitheater. Virginia songstress Nancy Scimone and her Red Bird Jazz Band will perform a sophisticated program featuring standard jazz faire designed to be uplifting, soothing and energizing. Gettysburg Tour. Join us for an all-day tour to “The Queen of Civil War Battle Sites,” Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. After viewing a twenty-minute movie and the Battle Cyclorama at the new Gettysburg National Battlefield Park museum, participants will have one hour and fifteen minutes for self-exploration in the museum’s fourteen exhibit areas. The bus will take the group to nearby restaurants for a self-purchased lunch. Then the bus will return to the Park for a two and one-half hour professionally guided tour of the Battlefield. The Shepherd's Center, in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Family Day Center and Arden Courts of Annandale, is sponsoring a special day of rest and relaxation designed for older adult caregivers (age 50 and older). Activities will include exercise, massages, speakers, entertainment, and lunch. Day care for your care receiver is available upon request but space is limited. There is no charge for this event.
